Through DTL Collaboration

In the article Collective Teacher Efficacy (CTE) according to John Hattie, Collective Teacher Efficacy has the highest Meta Analyses rating. This means that teacher efficacy has the highest impact on student achievement.

Wait - What!?!

I want to use a technique that has a mean effect size of 1.57!  How do I do that?

Simple - team with your DTL.  DTLs are not only your go-to for library books and resources, but they are also the best go-to collaborator, co-teacher and co-planner for your whole staff.  DTLs are the best way to move towards collective teacher efficacy.
Some important work your DTL does:
  • Working with administration and aiding presentation of  PD in our hands-on tech tools like Pear Deck, Read&Write, Adobe Spark, Flipgrid
  • Working with teachers on Media Literacy, Digital Tools, Digital Citizenship, Research and Works Cited
  • Work they do with students both in and out of the library
  • Curating your school library collection, setting up appealing displays and building relationships

DTLs working with teachers on Research Skills:

  • Tiffany LoSasso, DTL at Mandalay Middle School sets up research lessons through Slides presentations with add-in videos for each grade level 6th-8th; scaffolding from year to year and creating follow-up lessons to assess and extend learning.
    • 6th grade research / follow up lesson
    • 7th grade Research / Follow Up Lesson
    • 8th grade research

  • Karen Edoff, DTL at Manning Middle School has been a rock-star on utilizing databases we pull from Jeffco Public library - not only giving them academic skills but allowing for a relationship between student and community resource.
    • Introduction to databases.

  • Jennifer Close at Mount Carbon Elementary is working with her 5th graders on how to do research using Jeffco Public Library databases.  She created a video students and teachers can access to help them as they work on their research projects.
    • Using Jeffco Databases

DTLs are collaborating, co-teaching and co-planning at all levels to increase student learning, share the workload, and drive curriculum through use of our TechEd tools and our Jeffco Library resources.

So, if you really want to make a change in student effect size?

Team with your DTL.
